Day of Caring is a volunteer day where the United Way Montcalm-Ionia Counties’ donors and other volunteers are encouraged to participate in volunteering for a project at United Way partner agencies or other community locations.  The purpose of this day is to encourage volunteerism, service and to create a stronger tie between donors and the agencies they support through United Way.

Project List and Details

1. IM Kids 3rd Meal - Prepare facility for 2016-2017 School Year

  • Unpacking & shelving inventory, taking inventory, repackaging, cleaning (if necessary), decorating lunch bags, and breaking down boxes and loading into recycling trailer.
  • 4-8 Volunteers needed.
  • Appropriate for youth volunteers 12 and older.
  • Location:  10260 S. Sheridan Rd, Fenwick, MI
  • Time:  9 AM - 12 PM

2. Alpha Family Center - Painting 2 Bathrooms

  • Painting Experience desired
  • 2-6 Volunteers needed.
  • Location: 705 N Hillcrest St, Greenville, MI
  • Time: 9 AM - 12 PM (Project could take longer depending on painting skill level of volunteers)

3. Ionia County ISD - Parent/Child Playgroup Packets

  • Cutting laminate song cards and making intake packets for new families
  • Minimum of 5-6 volunteers
  • Appropriate for youth volunteers ages 12 and up.
  • Time:  9 AM - 12 PM
  • Location:  Flexible is a group would like to adopt this project.  It can be "taken to you."  Otherwise, 10260 S Sheridan Rd, Fenwick, MI

4. RAVE - Relief After Violent Encounter - Variety of Maintenance/clean-up projects.

  • Yard Clean-up
  • Shed organized
  • Gardening
  • Other possible cleaning projects.
  • Time: 9 AM - 12 PM
  • Location:  RAVE Shelter, Ionia

5. American Red Cross - Fire Alarm Canvassing

  • Volunteers will go door-to-door in a teams in a specified area to ask if people have or need smoke alarms.  If no one home, volunteers will leave a door hanger.  Volunteers will not have to go to homes where they do not feel safe, ie: 'big, scary dog."  Those homes without fire alarms are offered FREE smoke alarms.  Volunteers will collect names, addressess, and phone numbers of those interested.
  • Actual installs happen on August 20.  You are welcome to volunteer for this in addition to the canvassing.
  • Time:  This will likely occur late afternoon, early evening.  Further information will be provided to those interested.
  • Location:  This will happen in Belding, MI in pre-designated areas.  Orientation and training location to be determined.  Further information will be provided to those interested.

Agency Partners

We have currently filled out our project list for the 10th Annual Day of Caring.  However, we are still accepting project applications for additional projects in case there is an abundance of volunteers wishing to participate.  Click here to download the project application, if you would like your project to be onsidered.  We are also still seeking project in Lakeview and Greenville for the week of October 10-14, 2016.  The projects must be selected by July 15, 2016.
